Bows and Crossbows

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 bows shoot fastest but hit lightest and need Strength and Agility, while crossbows, new to the series, reload slowly by hand, crank or pulley but hit harder with almost no requirements. Both use the Marksmanship skill and aim with no crosshair; TheGamer ranks the Ash Longbow and the Reinforced Heavy Crossbow among the best.

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 a bow shoots fastest but hits lightest and asks for real Strength and Agility, while a crossbow reloads slowly and hits harder, as TheGamer's fighting tips put it; both train the Marksmanship skill and are aimed without a crosshair, Game Rant notes. Crossbows are new to the series: Warhorse's combat post lists them as the sequel's addition to the first game's swords, axes, maces, bows and halberds. How shooting works

There is no crosshair: you judge the shot from the bow or crossbow itself, which is why Game Rant sends new players to the archery range west of Troskowitz early, where shooting also pays a few groschen. Holding a drawn bow costs stamina, and the Marksmanship perk Steady Aim gives two extra seconds of steady aim with less drain and more damage, in PCGamesN's May 2025 perk list.

Bows need Strength and Agility, so a strong bow is hard to use early: TheGamer's ranking lists the Ash Longbow at Strength 22 and Agility 16. Crossbows ask for almost nothing (Strength 1 to 7 in the same list) but take longer between shots: TheGamer says the Decorated Field Crossbow reloads with a crank and the heavy crossbows with a pulley.

Bow or crossbow?

Game Rant's Marksmanship guide calls crossbows the best ranged choice for beginners, since their power does not depend on Henry's stats. Bows win once Henry is strong: TheGamer says the Ash Longbow outdamages guns over several shots in the same time, and its pick for a stealth weapon is the Decorated Field Crossbow, especially with poisoned bolts.

Several crossbows are quest rewards. Katherine gives a Decorated Field Crossbow for winning a first-blood duel in The Sword and the Quill, a reward TheGamer's walkthrough marks as missable. Winning Mark's archery contest in Back in the Saddle gives an Ornate Hunting Crossbow (Game Rant), and The Magic Arrow side quest rewards Pasha's Crossbow (Game Rant). The Gallant Huntsman's Kit, a $2.99 Steam DLC included in the Royal Edition, adds Artemis' crossbow.

Early bows and crossbows

The first bow is free. Game Rant's Marksmanship guide puts a Dogwood bow, arrows and a Marksmanship book at the "Target on a tree" spot northeast of Troskowitz and calls it the Dogwood Town Bow; Game Rant's early-game list calls it the Dogwood Village Bow, on a dirt path at a crossroads between Troskowitz and Tachov near a robbed messenger.

For a crossbow, the same Marksmanship guide says an Old Hunting Crossbow sells in Troskowitz for around 66 groschen, and names the Hazel Longbow and the Hunting Crossbow as its picks. Troskowitz's carpenter sells bows and crossbows (Game Rant's town guide).

Arrows and bolts

Arrows and bolts are bought, not crafted by the player: Game Rant says blacksmiths, general traders and carpenters sell them, and no reputable guide shows a recipe for making them. The arrow or bolt type matters as much as the bow, TheGamer says.

The strongest arrows are Black Arrows. Game Rant's Black Arrows guide says Lefty, at the shooting range near Pschitoky in the southwest of the Kuttenberg region, makes them from a raven's feather if you bring the materials.

Poison can coat ammunition: the Alchemy perk Poison Specialist gives more arrows per dose and longer poison (PCGamesN). The recipes are on Alchemy and Potion Recipes.

Marksmanship perks

PCGamesN's May 2025 list gives the Marksmanship tree and two Survival perks that boost arrows. Its effects may have been rebalanced since.

Training Marksmanship

Marksmanship rises only from hitting living targets: Game Rant says bandits, rabbits, deer, boars and wolves count and practice dummies give nothing. Archery competitions also train it (PCGamesN), and Patch 1.2 (Mar 13, 2025) said "training Marksmanship should be noticeably easier now" (Patch 1.2 notes).

Contests pay too. TheGamer's money guide describes the Trosky archery competition, unlocked during the search for Mutt, where a 5 groschen bet on the beginner option returns 10 more. Update 1.3 (May 15, 2025) added mounted archery contests with its free horse racing (Warhorse). Game Rant also recommends the Weak Bowman's Brew, found on the stump by the practice target, whose recipe Barnaby North sells at Trosky Castle.

Repair

Bows and crossbows wear and are repaired with a Marksman's kit, TheGamer's repair guide says. The Craftsmanship perk Bowyer (level 14) makes bows and crossbows repaired with a bowyer kit deal 10% more (PCGamesN).
