Henry of Skalitz

Henry of Skalitz is the hero of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, a blacksmith's son from Skalitz turned servant of Sir Radzig Kobyla, played in voice, motion and facial capture by Tom McKay; the player shapes his skills, perks, looks and honor.

Henry of Skalitz is the main character of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: a blacksmith's son whose parents were killed when King Sigismund's forces raided his village, now in the service of Sir Radzig Kobyla, played by Tom McKay (Deep Silver; NME's BAFTA winners list). He is fictional: TheGamer notes he is not based on one person, his name was common at the time, and Skalitz is a real place (TheGamer's history explainer). The sequel picks up only weeks after the first game for Henry, and everything he can do, from swordplay to reading, grows with the player's choices. The other people in his story are on Characters.

Henry before the sequel

Henry's story began in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, released Feb 13, 2018. There he was the son of a blacksmith from Skalitz whose parents died when Sigismund's forces raided the village (Deep Silver). Deep Silver's character page sums him up as a blacksmith's son caught up in the schemes of nobles and kings, driven by revenge for his murdered parents.

The first game also changed who Henry is. It revealed his real father to be Sir Radzig Kobyla, Lord of Skalitz, and it ended with Istvan Toth, the lord who ravaged Sasau, escaping with the sword Henry's father had made (TheGamer's returning characters guide). Henry starts the sequel still wanting revenge and that sword. What else carried over is on Differences from the First Game.

By the sequel Henry has risen a long way. PCGamesN describes him as having gone from poor peasant to a knight serving a noble who can now read, write and fight (PCGamesN's preview).

Henry's story in the sequel

This section reveals events from the whole main story, including the ending.

The sequel knocks Henry back to the bottom. Radzig sends him with Hans to deliver a letter to Trosky Castle (TheGamer); on the way the party is attacked, Henry is shot in the shoulder and goes over a cliff with an attacker (Game Rant's Easy Riders walkthrough). He is badly hurt and loses many of his levels (PCGamesN's preview), wakes in the herb woman Bozhena's house, and is turned away from Trosky as a beggar (TheGamer's Fortuna walkthrough). The opening is on Prologue Walkthrough.

He works his way back through the Trosky region. Henry wins his way into the wedding at Fort Semine, ends up in a cell, cures Captain Thomas to save Hans from the gallows, and serves Otto von Bergow until the march on Nebakov, where he duels Jan Žižka and is taken prisoner (Main Quests in Trosky). The act ends in Storm, when Henry kills Istvan Toth, by stealth or in a duel, and takes back Radzig's Longsword (Game Rant's Storm walkthrough).

In Kuttenberg Henry becomes a soldier of the resistance. He rides with Žižka, rescues Hans from Maleshov, serves wine to Sigismund in disguise in The King's Gambit, and is made a commander at Suchdol in So It Begins... (TheGamer's So It Begins... walkthrough). In Reckoning he must choose between bringing Samuel with him, which costs Suchdol its silver but saves Samuel, and leaving him to be hanged (TheGamer's endings guide). The Kuttenberg quests are on Main Quests in Kuttenberg.

The story ends with Henry judged. In Judgment Day, Radzig finally gives Henry his sword, and his parents appear in a vision to judge his deeds; past actions decide what they say, not dialogue choices (TheGamer's Judgment Day walkthrough). If he kept his honor they are proud; if not, his blacksmith father compares him to Istvan (TheGamer's endings guide). The choices are listed on Endings.

Tom McKay

Tom McKay plays Henry in both games. He told Insider Gaming that he auditioned in Prague around 2016 and was offered the part, and that the biggest technical change for the sequel was live facial capture during motion capture, which the first game did not have (Insider Gaming, May 20, 2024). He described the motion capture, done in two blocks of about six or seven weeks, as "the first brick in the wall from the acting perspective."

The role is one of the largest in games. GamesRadar+ reported that McKay recorded 508 hours of dialogue over 127 sessions, and TheGamer suggests he may hold the record for most lines for one character (TheGamer's voice actors guide). In a BBC interview he called it "one of the most amazing and unusual acting challenges" he had faced (GamingBolt).

The performance was nominated, not awarded. McKay was nominated for Best Lead Performer at the Golden Joystick Awards on Nov 20, 2025 and for Performer in a Leading Role at the BAFTA Games Awards in April 2026, which Jennifer English won (NME). More on the cast is on Voice Cast and Music.

How the player shapes Henry

Henry's skills grow by doing, not by spending points. Warhorse wrote that "Henry's skills level up as he uses them" (Warhorse, Oct 4, 2024), across four main stats (Strength, Agility, Vitality, Speech) and 15 skills (Game Rant's perk point guide). The main level and every stat and skill cap at 30, and each level-up gives a perk point that can go into any tree. The details are on Skills and Stats and Perks.

Two early choices give him a head start. In Easy Riders the player picks a playstyle, Soldier, Adviser or Scout, which Game Rant calls a "very, very minor" bonus because skills rise through use (Game Rant's playstyle guide). At the campfire the player then picks stat boosts from three sets of four (Game Rant's Easy Riders walkthrough).

His looks are set by clothes, armor and, since a patch, the barber. Patch 1.2 on Mar 13, 2025 added Barber Mode, with barbers in Zhelejov and Kuttenberg; PCGamesN says any haircut gives a temporary Charisma boost (PCGamesN), and Patch 1.2.4 on Apr 15, 2025 added a bald style. How clothing affects Charisma is on Speech and Charisma.

His conduct is the player's too. Henry can court several characters (Romance), steal or keep his honor, and spare or kill the men who wronged him; those deeds decide what his parents say at the end (TheGamer's endings guide). His dog and horse return from the first game: see Mutt the Dog and Horses.
