Blacksmithing
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 you forge weapons and horseshoes yourself at a smithy: learn a recipe from a sketch, heat the metal with the bellows until it glows straw yellow, hammer it evenly on the anvil, reheat as needed and quench it. Blacksmith Radovan in Tachov teaches it in The Blacksmith's Son, and it raises Craftsmanship.
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Henry forges his own weapons and tools at a smithy in a hands-on minigame: you heat the workpiece in the forge with the bellows until it glows "the color of straw", hammer every part of it on the anvil, flip it, reheat it when it cools, and quench it in water when Henry says it is done, as Game Rant's blacksmithing guide describes. Henry is a blacksmith's son, and the craft returns from the first game as a skill of its own, Craftsmanship. Blacksmith Radovan in Tachov teaches it early in the Trosky region, and the Legacy of the Forge expansion builds a whole storyline on it.

How to start smithing
Blacksmithing opens within the first hours, through the main quest Wedding Crashers. Game Rant explains that the blacksmith route (option B) into the wedding goes through Radovan in Tachov, a small village northwest of Troskowitz, and that players who pick the miller's route can still visit him. Talking to Radovan starts the side quest The Blacksmith's Son, in which he teaches Henry to forge, and he will repeat the steps on request.
The smithing route also brings a home. Working for Radovan gives Henry a bed and a chest in Tachov, a small base, Game Rant notes. Its early-game guide recommends helping Radovan rather than Miller Kreyzl for exactly that reason; the choice is a point of no return in Wedding Crashers, as the Best Early Choices page explains.
The first recipes are horseshoes and a work axe. Destructoid's guide says Henry learns both by reading the sketches in his inventory, and that Radovan also appears in Troskowitz after the prologue offering work.
Forging step by step
The minigame has four steps. The controls below are from Game Rant's guide (controller, then PlayStation, then keyboard and mouse).
- Heat. Click the anvil once you have the materials, then hold Right Trigger or Q to work the bellows, moving the workpiece back and forth so it heats evenly. Destructoid describes the glow going from red to orange to yellow; Radovan's rule is straw yellow. Take it to the anvil with A, Cross or R.
- Hammer. Strike with Right Trigger or the left mouse button: a tap hits softly, a hold hits hard. Hit every spot once, then flip the piece with X, Square or F and repeat. Sparks mean a good hit, and Henry whistles while the rhythm is right.
- Reheat. When the metal cools and dulls, send it back to the forge with A, Cross or R. A Game Rant guide to the reforged Radzig Kobyla's sword warns that reheating a blade a second time drops its quality one tier.
- Quench. Accept when Henry says the piece is done, and he quenches it in the water bucket.
Quality comes from the hammering. Forged weapons come in three quality tiers, and both accurate timing and a higher Craftsmanship skill push the result up, Game Rant says. Higher tiers deal more damage and sell for more. The Craftsmanship perk Martin's Secret (level 16) lets Henry forge a higher tier still, which cannot be found any other way.
Recipes and materials
Every recipe comes from a sketch. Sketches are sold by armorers and other craftsmen or found as loot, and reading one in the inventory adds it to the crafting menu under Swords, Longswords, Axes and Other, Game Rant explains. Materials such as steel, scrap metal and fastening material come from blacksmiths, craftsmen and chests. Since Patch 1.5 (Nov 11, 2025), the forge can draw materials from the shared stash and the horse's saddlebags, the patch notes say, and Patch 1.2 moved bezoar from alchemy into blacksmithing (notes).
Several quests ask Henry to forge a named item. The table lists those the guides describe, with the materials they give.
| Item | Where it comes up | Materials | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Horseshoes | First recipes; Groom Peltzel's three sets in The Finger of God; Martha in Hush, My Darling (60 groschen) | Not listed | Game Rant, Game Rant |
| Toledo Steel Sword | The Hermit: reforge Ambrose's broken sword for Radovan | 1 Frankfurt Steel, 2 Scrap Metal | Game Rant |
| Rikonaris' Saber | The Voivode's Curse, at Tachov | Charcoal Water, Iron, Fastening Material, Deer Skin, Copper, 2 Steel | Game Rant |
| Absolver replica | Absolver, Sigismund's camp | Deer Skin, Eight-sided Sword Pommel, Horned Sword Guard, 2 Frankfurt Steel, 2 Iron | TheGamer |
| Competition Sword | Hammer and Tongs task, Grund | Not listed | PCGamesN |
| Sword of Sir Valentine | Recipe from The Reliquary; PCGamesN's best one-handed sword | Not listed | PCGamesN |
| Reforged Radzig Kobyla's sword | After The Storm, in Kuttenberg; needs Craftsmanship 26 | 3 Toledo Steel | Game Rant |
| Executioner's Sword | Executioner's Pride (added in Update 1.3), Kuttenberg Gallows | Hanged Man's Noose, Ghostly Horseshoe, Bezoar, Hare Pelt | Game Rant |
The reforged Radzig Kobyla's sword shows how the tiers work. Game Rant says a normal run gives a Quality III longsword, and Quality IV needs Martin's Secret and a perfect forging run. The best blades are compared on Best Weapons and Armor and Melee Weapons.
Where the forges are
Forges stand at the region's smithies. The guides name these:
- Tachov: Radovan's smithy, shop and bed, where smithing is taught (Game Rant's Tachov guide).
- Trosky Castle: the castle smithy, whose smith sells the Falchion, Noble's Sword and Knight's Sword (PCGamesN); Game Rant's bathhouse guide places a bath near Osina's smithy.
- Miskowitz and Grund, in the Kuttenberg region: blacksmiths with their own stock (PCGamesN).
- Kuttenberg: the city's smiths and, with Legacy of the Forge, Henry's own restored forge (Warhorse).
Leveling Craftsmanship
Craftsmanship rises slowly, and smithing is only one source. Game Rant lists laundry, repair kits, sharpening on a grindstone and smithing, plus Craftsmanship books and paying a blacksmith for tips. PCGamesN adds that the Keen Eye perk turns paid repairs into experience. More routes are on the Leveling Guide.
The same skill governs repairs. Repair kits fix gear in the field, and some repairs stay locked until Craftsmanship is high enough, TheGamer explains; a smith repairs weapons for typically 50 to 100 groschen, and sharpening wheels at smithies are free. Warhorse warned that a broken sword "is gone for good".
Craftsmanship perk tiers open at even levels. The figures below are PCGamesN's May 16, 2025 perk list, with Locksmith's lockpick bonus from Game Rant; patches may have changed them since.
| Level | Perk | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | Razor Sharp | +10% damage on weapons you sharpen |
| 6 | Seven-League Boots | 25% less stamina in boots you repaired yourself |
| 6 | Well-Fitted | Self-repaired gear is quieter |
| 8 | Helping Hand | Craftsmen's repairs 20% cheaper |
| 8 | Thorough Maintenance | Gear degrades 10% slower |
| 10 | Hardened Steel | Forged weapons degrade 20% slower |
| 10 | Keen Eye | Paying for repairs gives Craftsmanship XP |
| 12 | Locksmith | +3 Thievery for lockpicking; 1 to 3 extra lockpicks per item forged from scrap iron |
| 12 | Totally Legit | Items lose their stolen status faster |
| 14 | Bowyer | Bows and crossbows repaired with a bowyer kit deal 10% more |
| 14 | Thorough Maintenance II | Gear takes 20% less damage |
| 16 | Martin's Secret | Forge the top quality tier |
| 16 | Seven League Boots II | 50% less stamina in self-repaired boots |

Smithing also unlocks a hidden perk. Game Rant's hidden perk list says Hammered unlocks after crafting 50 blacksmithing items (Strat Gaming Guides says 10) and makes heavy weapons cost 10% less stamina per swing. Other trees are on Perks.
Smithing for profit
Simple forged goods sell. Game Rant's money guide names the Tachov smithy as a money route, since horseshoes, swords and work axes are easy to make and sell, and better precision fetches more. PCGamesN lists smithing for Radovan among its legal ways to earn, and the Speech perk Polished Wares adds 10% when selling near-perfect equipment, its perk list says. No reputable outlet we read prints fixed sale prices for forged goods. The Money Making Guide compares smithing with other incomes.
Legacy of the Forge
The second story expansion is set around a smithy. Released Sep 9, 2025 for $13.99 on Steam, Legacy of the Forge has Henry rebuild the burned-down Kuttenberg forge where his adoptive father Martin trained, join the city's blacksmiths' guild, and reunite Martin's old colleagues to finish the astronomical clock, PLAION's release says.
It starts with a smithing exam. In the quest Adept, Master Bushek offers a guild handbook for 100 groschen and leads Henry to a trial of questions and a forged Blacksmiths' Guild longsword, Game Rant's trial guide explains. Its answers repeat the craft's rules: correctly heated metal is "Straw yellow", smiths whistle "To keep rhythm", and the final step is "Quenching". A Bronze result can be retried for 200 groschen.
The forge then earns money and Prestige. Game Rant's Prestige guide describes paid commissions from guild members handled by Magdalena, a Sales Chest for Henry's goods, three daily guild quests from 9:00 AM, and Master Bushek the Elder's recipe sketches. The full storyline is on Legacy of the Forge.

Legacy of the ForgeLegacy of the Forge is the second story DLC for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, released Sep 9, 2025 with Patch 1.4 for $13.99 on Steam. Henry joins Kuttenberg's blacksmiths' guild, rebuilds the burnt-out forge where his adoptive father Martin trained, earns Prestige to upgrade it, and restores the city's astronomical clock; it starts after the main quest Speak of the Devil. -
Best Early ChoicesThe early choices that matter most in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are the Wedding Crashers route (Radovan or the miller), which horse to keep, your first perks and where you get armor and a sword in the Trosky region. The prologue playstyle choice (Soldier, Adviser or Scout) gives only small starting bonuses, so Game Rant suggests Adviser or Soldier.
-
Best Weapons and ArmorGuide outlets name the reforged Radzig Kobyla's sword the best longsword in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the Sword of Sir Valentine the best one-handed sword, the Ramhead Hammer the best blunt weapon and the Lord of Holohlavy Heater Shield the best shield, with a late armor set of Noble's Bascinet, Milanese Cuirass and Nuremberg gauntlets (134 defense each) from Kuttenberg's armorers.
-
Melee WeaponsKingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has three melee weapon skills: Swords (shortswords, sabers, hunting swords and longswords, the only weapons that can Master Strike), Heavy Weapons (maces, axes and war hammers, best against plate) and Polearms (the longest reach), plus shields, daggers for stealth kills and unarmed fighting. -
KuttenbergKuttenberg (today's Kutná Hora) is the silver-mining city at the heart of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's second map, which opens after the main quest Storm. Warhorse says the city is some ten times larger than the first game's Rattay; its region also holds Suchdol, Sigismund's Camp, Maleshov, the Devil's Den and Sedletz Monastery. -
Leveling GuideThe fastest way to level in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is to repeat each skill's best activity. Fight in Miller Kreyzl's brawls for Strength, haggle and pass Speech checks for Speech, open his relocking practice chest for lockpicking, and brew Strong Marigold Decoctions for Alchemy. Buy skill books at about 150 groschen each.
