Alchemy and Potion Recipes

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 you brew potions at an alchemy bench by following a recipe step by step: pour a base into the cauldron, add herbs in order, boil them for a set number of hourglass turns, then pour or distill. Game Rant counts 27 recipes, from Savior Schnapps (wine, one nettle, two belladonna) to poisons and gunpowder.

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 you brew potions yourself at an alchemy bench, following a recipe from Henry's book one step at a time: a base liquid goes into the cauldron, herbs go in whole or ground in the mortar, the hourglass counts the boiling, and the result is poured into a phial or distilled. Game Rant's recipe list counts 27 recipes: 20 potions, 3 poisons, 2 gunpowders and 2 perfumes. Brewing is cheaper than buying, it raises the Alchemy skill, and it makes the Savior Schnapps that save the game.

How to brew at the alchemy bench

Every potion follows the same routine at the bench. A TheGamer brewing guide describes it: pick the recipe, pour the base liquid into the cauldron, grind the herbs the recipe calls for in the mortar, add each ingredient in the stated order, turn the hourglass once for every turn of boiling (using the bellows when the recipe asks for them), and finish by pouring the brew into a phial or distilling it.

  1. Open the recipe book at the bench and choose the potion. Keep it open, since the order of the steps matters.
  2. Pour the base: water, wine, spirits or oil.
  3. Add herbs whole, or grind them first in the mortar when the recipe says "ground".
  4. Lower the cauldron over the fire and flip the hourglass for each turn of boiling the step asks for. Some steps say to work the bellows while it boils.
  5. Add the next ingredient only after the boiling the recipe asks for, and repeat.
  6. Finish as written: pour into a phial, or distill.

Mistakes cost quality, not always the whole brew. The quality of the result decides both the potion's grade and the experience it gives, Game Rant's leveling guide explains. The Alchemy perk Secret of Equilibrium forgives minor errors, and Secret of Matter adds extra potions to a successful brew (see the perks below).

Recipes come from apothecaries, quests and loot. Henry receives the Savior Schnapps recipe during the prologue, according to Destructoid. Game Rant's early-game guide says to buy the Marigold Decoction recipe for about 150 groschen and brew healing potions rather than buy them. Barnaby North at Trosky Castle sells the Bowman's Brew recipe (Game Rant's marksmanship guide), and the side quest Opus Magnum rewards the Lead Shot Gunpowder recipe (Game Rant's Opus Magnum guide).

Every potion recipe

The table gives each potion's base, ingredients, steps and effect as PCGamesN's potion list (Feb 18, 2025) prints them; Cockerel and Moonshine come from Game Rant's recipe list (Apr 20, 2025). "Ground" means crushed in the mortar first, and a "turn" is one turn of the hourglass. Later patches may have changed effects.

Three potions of the first game are missing. Night Owl, Padfoot and Dragon's Breath appear in neither PCGamesN's nor Game Rant's 2025 list for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Perfumes, poisons and gunpowder

Perfumes raise Charisma for a while. PCGamesN gives Lion Perfume as spirits, two sage and two mint (boil the sage 2 turns, add ground mint, pour) for a strong, short boost, and Mintha Perfume as wine, three dandelion, one marigold and one mint (add ground dandelion and mint and boil, add marigold and boil 1 turn with the bellows, distill) for a small, long one. Wearing two perfumes at once lowers Charisma instead.

Poisons go on weapons or into cooking pots. PCGamesN's list has three:

Poison Base and ingredients Steps Effect
Bane Wine, Wormwood x1, Belladonna x2, Fly Agaric x1 Boil wormwood 2 turns, add ground belladonna, boil 1 turn with the bellows, add fly agaric, distill Drains 110 health, fatal; best in cooking pots
Dollmaker Spirits, Valerian x1, Herb Paris x2 Boil herb paris 3 turns, add ground valerian, boil 2 turns, distill Stops running and lowers weapon skills; best on weapons
Lullaby Oil, Poppy x1, Herb Paris x1, Thistle x1 Boil poppy 1 turn, add thistle and boil 1 turn, add ground herb paris, pour Drops energy to zero; works on weapons and in pots

Gunpowder is brewed too, then ground. Game Rant's recipe list gives Lead Shot Gunpowder as water, one saltpeter, one sulfur and charcoal (boil ground saltpeter and sulfur 2 turns, add ground charcoal, boil 2 turns, pour into a mortar and grind), and Scattershot Gunpowder as water, one saltpeter, one sulfur and one leached coal (boil the ground saltpeter and sulfur 3 turns, add ground leached coal, boil 1 turn, pour into a mortar and grind). The powder feeds the guns on Firearms. A GameSpot guide says the recipes are sold by the Kuttenberg apothecary or found during the main quest Via Argentum. No reliable source shows a recipe for arrows or bolts.

Herbs and where to find them

The recipes use 19 herbs plus a few other ingredients. PCGamesN's list names nettle, belladonna, marigold, dandelion, sage, wormwood, eyebright, St. John's Wort, comfrey, chamomile, valerian, mint, thistle, poppy, feverfew, ginger, elderberry leaves, henbane and herb paris, plus charcoal, cobweb, boar's tusk and fly agaric. Warhorse wrote that what Henry gathers in the wild feeds both his stomach and his alchemy.

Woodland gardens hold several herbs in one place. A Game Rant garden guide lists Zhelejov (sage, mint, St. John's Wort), Tachov (the widest mix, including marigold and eyebright) and Herbalist Barnaby's garden (wormwood, valerian, herb paris); none of them grows belladonna.

The Troskowitz apothecary is the classic early farm. Game Rant says marigold grows right outside its alchemy station and nettle along the road west of its shed, and both grow back after one in-game week away from the area.

Some herbs are easier to buy. A TheGamer guide did not confirm henbane growing wild and buys it from Barnaby, Aranka, Emmerich or a Kuttenberg apothecary. Gamer Guides says dried belladonna costs about 2 groschen at most alchemists. Since Patch 1.2.4 (Apr 15, 2025), herb shops never pay more for an herb than they charge for it, the patch notes say. Patch 1.2 also moved bezoar out of alchemy and into blacksmithing (patch notes).

Herbs spoil, and drying racks help. Game Rant notes that drying racks dry herbs and meat and often stand near alchemy benches, and the perk Art of Preservation slows decay.

Alchemy perks

Alchemy perk tiers open at even skill levels. The list below is PCGamesN's May 16, 2025 perk list; Warhorse has rebalanced several systems since, so values may have moved. The full trees are on Perks.

A hidden perk rewards steady brewing. Game Rant's hidden perk list says Lab Dweller unlocks after crafting 20 potions and makes potions and poisons last longer and hangovers shorter.

Leveling Alchemy and making money

Strong Marigold Decoctions are the usual way to level. Game Rant times a batch at about a minute: water, one nettle, flip the hourglass, two marigold in the mortar, lift the cauldron, grind and pour. The Scholarship perk Wonders of Nature (Scholarship 8) adds 20% XP to Alchemy and Survival, and a Fox potion brewed at Alchemy 16 gives 50% more XP for two days, the same guide says. Other routes are on the Leveling Guide.

Potions are also a steady income. PCGamesN's money guide lists alchemy among the legal ways to earn, and its perk list recommends Potion Seller, worth 30% more per sale. The Money Making Guide compares it with smithing and dice. No reputable outlet we read prints fixed sale prices for potions.
