Žižka in the Trosky story

This section and the next reveal events from the whole main story.

Žižka enters the story as an enemy. In Necessary Evil a captured bandit reveals that his gang hides at Nebakov and that Istvan Toth works with them (Game Rant's Necessary Evil walkthrough). When Otto von Bergow's army marches on Nebakov in For Victory!, it is ambushed, and at the mill outside the fortress the bandits' leader challenges Henry to a duel; Game Rant's walkthrough labels that duel "Jan Zizka" (Game Rant's For Victory! walkthrough).

The duel gives him his famous wound. Game Rant says Henry is the one who strikes Žižka's eye, and that afterward Žižka wears a bandage over his left eye, a nod to the historical "One-eyed Zizka" (Game Rant). He wins the fight's aftermath: Henry and Hans end up his prisoners at Nebakov.

He turns ally once he learns who he has been working for. In Divine Messenger, played as Father Godwin, Žižka asks whether Hanush has sent a ransom for Hans (none has), then von Bergow's men infiltrate Nebakov and Godwin helps Žižka fight them off (TheGamer's Divine Messenger walkthrough). In return Žižka frees Henry and Hans, and together they expose Istvan Toth as Sigismund's agent. Game Rant describes the turn as Žižka learning that the person he first sided with was untrustworthy (Game Rant).

The first act ends with Žižka beside Henry in defeat and escape. Von Bergow takes Nebakov in The Finger of God and captures Henry and his allies (Game Rant's Finger of God walkthrough). In Storm, Katherine rescues the group, and Henry recovers his own gear along with Godwin's and Žižka's before they escape toward Kuttenberg (Game Rant's Storm walkthrough). Those quests are on Main Quests in Trosky.

Žižka in the Kuttenberg story

In Kuttenberg Žižka leads and Henry follows. In The Sword and the Quill, Henry, Žižka and Katherine ride to Suchdol; when Margrave Jobst refuses to shelter the Dry Devil, Žižka sends Katherine to Kuttenberg to look into Hans and goes after the Dry Devil with Henry (TheGamer's Sword and the Quill walkthrough). In Speak of the Devil, his drunk friend Kubyenka points them to buried hand cannons, and in the convoy ambush Žižka takes on the heavily armored enemy while Henry attacks from behind (TheGamer's Speak of the Devil walkthrough).

He plans the campaign's big strokes. In Dancing with the Devil he plans the night attack on Maleshov to capture von Bergow (TheGamer's Dancing with the Devil walkthrough), and in Oratores he wants the royal treasury key from the mint master Vavak, the start of the raid on Sigismund's silver (TheGamer's Oratores walkthrough). In Civitas Pragensis he announces that Sigismund has retreated (TheGamer's Civitas Pragensis walkthrough).

At the siege of Suchdol he gives Henry command. In So It Begins... Žižka makes Henry a commander and has him recruit men (TheGamer's So It Begins... walkthrough); in Besieged he asks Henry to choose three men for a raid (TheGamer's Besieged walkthrough); and in Hunger and Despair he sends Henry and Samuel out for reinforcements (TheGamer's Hunger and Despair walkthrough). The last scene after the battle shows Radzig, a drunk Žižka and Hynek, the Dry Devil (TheGamer's Judgment Day walkthrough). The full sequence is on Main Quests in Kuttenberg.

Character and reception

Žižka is written as quiet and professional rather than brutal. Game Rant's Josh Cotts describes him at first as "heartless, cocky, and cunning," and later as "very softspoken and professional," treating Henry with a respect other characters often do not (Game Rant). Cotts called him "the sequel's best new character."

His agent Katherine ties him to Henry's private life. TheGamer describes Katherine as an undercover agent for Žižka (TheGamer's voice actors guide); she is one of the game's romances (Romance). Warhorse's character trailer of Mar 27, 2025, "The Devil's Pack", introduced the company Henry fights in beside Žižka as "misfits, rogues, and unlikely heroes".

Who voices Žižka

Adrian Bouchet plays Žižka. Warhorse's Devil's Pack trailer of Mar 27, 2025 shows the card "Adrian Bouchet as Žižka" among its cast credits (Warhorse), alongside Tom McKay as Henry, Janina Anderson as Katherine and Douglas Russell as the Dry Devil. TheGamer's list of eight major characters and their actors leaves Žižka out (TheGamer). More on the cast is on Voice Cast and Music.

The real Jan Žižka

The real Žižka was a minor nobleman with a rough early life. The World History Encyclopedia says he was born about 1360 in Trocnov, Bohemia, was involved in banditry and mercenary work by his teens, was listed as an outlaw in a Rosenberg estate account in 1406, and received a full pardon from King Wenceslas IV in 1409 (World History Encyclopedia). He was connected with Wenceslas's court and served as chamberlain to Queen Sophia, and in July 1410 he fought as a mercenary for the Polish-Lithuanian side against the Teutonic Knights.

Little is known of the years the game covers. TheGamer notes that only the last years of his life are well documented, so most of his story in the game is invented (TheGamer's history explainer). He did have one eye, but he did not lose it in a duel with Henry, who is fictional. The World History Encyclopedia says he lost one eye in his youth and the other at the siege of Rabi in 1421, after which he fought on blind (World History Encyclopedia).

He became famous in the Hussite Wars, which began in 1419. As a leader of the Taborites he was never defeated: at Sudoměř in 1420 about 400 followers held off about 2,000 crusaders using wagons and a swampy position, and on Jul 14, 1420 he beat Sigismund's crusaders on Vítkov Hill, giving the Hussites control of Prague (World History Encyclopedia). He won at Kutná Hora, the game's Kuttenberg, later in 1421, and at Německý Brod in January 1422.

His tactics match the game's early guns. The World History Encyclopedia credits him with the wagon fort (Wagenburg), farm carts reinforced with planks and firing slots and manned by about 20 soldiers each, and credits the Hussites with the "houfnice" (howitzer) and the "pist'ala" (pistol) (World History Encyclopedia). The game's hand cannons are on Firearms. He died of plague in October 1424 while on campaign.

The game nods to his family. TheGamer notes that Žižka's mother was named Katherine or Johanna and that he married two women named Katherine, one source for the game's Katherine (TheGamer). The wider history of 1403 is on Historical Background.
