Food, Sleep and Health
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Henry must eat and sleep: keep nourishment under 100 and energy above 50, sleep about eight or nine hours a night, and never eat food below condition 50. Health returns through sleep, Marigold Decoction and other potions, while bleeding stops only with bandages.
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Henry has to eat, sleep and look after his wounds: Game Rant's guide to energy and nourishment advises keeping nourishment at or below 100, energy above 50, sleeping at least eight or nine hours, and never eating food whose condition has dropped below 50. Health comes back with sleep and potions such as Marigold Decoction, and bleeding stops only with bandages. Warhorse Studios says the survival layer is "for the immersion. It's not hard to be rested and well fed", and meals give no combat buffs.
Quick facts
| Needs | Nourishment, energy, health, plus drunkenness and cleanliness |
| Nourishment | Keep at or below 100; overeating lowers stamina (Game Rant) |
| Energy | Keep above 50; sleep 8 to 9 hours (Game Rant) |
| Food safety | Do not eat below condition 50 (food poisoning) |
| Healing | Sleep, Marigold Decoction, other potions, bathing with a perk |
| Bleeding | Bandages only (TheGamer) |
| Combat buffs from food | None (Warhorse) |
Hunger and food
Nourishment falls through the day and must be topped up. Nearly any food restores some, and the exact amount is in the item's entry in the inventory, Game Rant explains. Hunger lowers maximum stamina, and when nourishment gets too low Henry starts losing health.
Overeating is a penalty too. Going over 100 nourishment lowers overall stamina until it falls back under 100 or Henry drinks a Digestive Potion, the same guide says. Sleeping also drains nourishment, so a meal before bed helps.
Food spoils. Warhorse says food goes off over time and recommends dried fruit or jerky for long trips. Game Rant warns that food below condition 50 risks food poisoning; a Digestive Potion cures it (PCGamesN).
Raw meat must be cooked, smoked or dried. Game Rant's cooking guide says cooking over an open flame (often a cauldron) gives the most nourishment but spoils fastest, a smokehouse sits in between, and a drying rack gives the least but lasts days. Other guides describe cooking as extending shelf life, so treat the ranking as Game Rant's. Patch 1.4 on Sep 9, 2025 fixed a bug, in Warhorse's words: "Henry has been re-taught how to cook eggs."
Wild food feeds both stomach and alchemy. Warhorse wrote that what Henry gathers in the wild serves sustenance and potions alike, and that onions may carry "a debuff for bad breath". Herbs are covered on Alchemy and Potion Recipes.
Perks change the rules. PCGamesN's May 16, 2025 perk list gives these:
| Perk | Tree and level | Effect (PCGamesN) |
|---|---|---|
| Ascetic | Vitality 6 | Nourishment falls 30% slower |
| Balanced Diet | Vitality 8 | After 3 days without overeating: +20% stamina regeneration, +10% Vitality XP |
| Art of Preservation | Alchemy 6 | Raw food and herbs decay 50% slower |
| Master Cook | Survival 8 | Cooked or smoked food at 100% condition |
| Beer Belly | Drinking 10 | Beer satiates twice as much, potions half as much |

Energy and sleep
Sleep restores energy. Game Rant calls it the only way to refill energy, though the Cockerel potion also adds energy and slows fatigue (Game Rant's recipe list). Tiredness lowers Strength, Vitality, Agility and Charisma, cuts carrying capacity, and can make Henry nod off standing up.
Henry needs a bed he may use. Gamer Guides says the first free beds come from Blacksmith Radovan or Miller Kreyzl after some work for them, more open up with the story, and innkeepers rent long-term rooms with free board (Zhelejov's Wagoner's Inn for 120 groschen). Henry can sleep one to twelve hours, and longer sleep in better beds restores more. Sleeping in someone else's bed is trespassing; see Crime and Reputation.
Sleeping in your own bed also saves the game. The other ways to save are on Saving and Savior Schnapps.
Sleep is not always safe. Warhorse says a sleeping Henry can be robbed or attacked, and someone hunting him for a crime will wake him to pay a fine or be arrested.
Health and healing
Health comes back several ways. Sleep restores it, more so in a better bed. Marigold Decoction, the classic healing potion, restores a portion of health over a short time, and a strong one also cures hangovers, TheGamer's healing guide says. Game Rant suggests buying its recipe for about 150 groschen and brewing it rather than buying the potions.
Other potions protect rather than heal. In PCGamesN's potion list, Aqua Vitalis reduces health loss and slows bleeding, Chamomile Decoction makes sleep restore lost health, and Painkiller Brew eases wound effects and the stamina cap lost with health. Fever Tonic treats fever if given in time.
Bleeding needs bandages. Potions do not stop it; Henry applies bandages from the inventory, and "The more you are bleeding, the more bandages you will require", TheGamer writes. The Vitality perk Thick-Blooded slows bleeding (PCGamesN).
Vitality perks help Henry survive. PCGamesN's list gives Next to Godliness (level 10: a tub or pier wash heals 10 health and a clean bed heals 25% faster), Revenant (14: health regenerates up to 50), Red Mist (14: bonuses below 25 health), Diehard (16: a fatal wound leaves Henry at 25% health) and Never Surrender (18: an armor bonus below 25 health). The Alchemy perk Water of Life makes potions heal 25% faster. Patch 1.2 stopped an exploit of Next to Godliness for endless healing.
Punishment can wound too. Caning for a crime cuts Strength, Agility and Vitality by 40% for a while, Game Rant notes.
Drink and drunkenness
Alcohol shows as a dial beside the health bar. TheGamer's drinking guide says it has a positive phase and a negative one; drunkenness lowers Speech and Charisma, raises conspicuousness and blurs vision. Innkeepers sell beer, cheap wine, fine wine, mead, schnapps and wine for a few groschen each, and heavy drinking can lead to alcoholism.
Hangovers have cures. Hair o' the Dog reduces drunkenness (a strong one restores sobriety and helps hangovers and alcoholism), and a strong Marigold Decoction cures a hangover, per PCGamesN. TheGamer prices both at about 20 to 80 groschen at apothecaries. Patch 1.2 rebalanced alcohol consumption and the blackout formula (patch notes).
The Drinking skill softens it. Drinking more raises the skill, and higher levels lower the risk of addiction (TheGamer). Its perks include Nightcap (resist hangovers), Cheers! (wine or beer heal 5 health and can cure poison) and Enhanced Mixture (any potion heals while drunk), in PCGamesN's list. Savior Schnapps also makes Henry mildly drunk.
Bathing and clean clothes
Dirt matters socially. TheGamer's beginner tips say dirty clothes hurt Henry in conversation: troughs outside taverns clean only the face, laundry spots by lakes clean clothes (with Soap), and paid baths clean best. Charisma is set by clothes and appearance (Game Rant), and Warhorse warned that people judge a Henry who arrives "bloodied and bruised from battle".
Bathhouses do the most. A paid bath washes the dirt off all clothes and armor and prevents the Reeky debuff, which lets people track Henry by smell, Game Rant's bathhouse guide says; the costlier hour with a bathmaid gives the Time Well Spent buff. It lists baths at Zhelejov and Trosky Castle in the Trosky Region, and six around Kuttenberg: the Kingfisher Bathhouse, City Bathhouse, Maleshov Baths, Devil's Den Baths, Sigismund's Camp Baths and Pschitoky Baths. A bath visit also saves the game (Game Rant).
Hardcore Mode needs
Hardcore Mode can make survival harder. Among its negative perks, Game Rant's comparison describes Hangry Henry (hunger lowers social stats, food restores 50% less, digestion 25% faster), Picky Eater (food spoils 25% faster, animals yield a quarter of their usual resources), Somnambulant (Henry may sleepwalk to a random spot and rest drains 40% faster) and Sweaty (clothes dirty faster and his smell hurts stealth). Health and stamina bars are hidden in combat. The mode is on Hardcore Mode.
