Critic scores

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 scores 89 on PC from 79 critics on Metacritic, and 88 on both PS5 (61 critics) and Xbox Series X (14 critics), read on Oct 25, 2026. At launch the PC score stood at 88 from 53 reviews, per Game World Observer. For comparison, the first game holds 76 on PC, as Steam lists it.

OpenCritic rates it "Mighty". Its Top Critic Average is 89 from 175 critic reviews, 95% of critics recommend it, and its consensus calls it one of the best RPGs of 2025 while noting that slow progression and demanding systems "aren't for everyone" (OpenCritic, read Oct 25, 2026). Two weeks after launch PLAION cited 96% recommended (PLAION).

Daniel Vávra later commented on the numbers. He told The Game Business in April 2025 that Metacritic settled at 88 after some low critic reviews, while Steam users rated the game 94%.

What reviewers said

Most reviews went live on Feb 3, 2025, the day before release. Each score and line below is the outlet's own, as OpenCritic lists them (read Oct 25, 2026):

Outlet (reviewer) Score What they said
Push Square (Khayl Adam) 10/10 "in a league almost entirely of its own"
Game Rant (Josh Cotts) 10/10 "one of the first great games of 2025"
TheGamer (Sam Hallahan) 5/5 "a game that feels like it's making history"
Game Informer (Wesley LeBlanc) 9.5/10 (Mar 24, 2025)
Destructoid (Steven Mills) 9.5/10
IGN (Leana Hafer) 9/10 "excellent melee combat and an exceptional story"
GameSpot (Richard Wakeling) 9/10 "a triumphant sequel, improving upon its predecessor"
PC Gamer (Joshua Wolens) 90/100 "a new RPG classic"
GamesRadar+ (Alan Wen) 4/5 "progression is purposely slow"
Rock Paper Shotgun Unscored "makes Elder Scrolls feel shallow"
VGC (Jordan Middler) Unscored "a brilliant RPG that's uncompromisingly itself"
Eurogamer (Katharine Castle) 3/5 "just as divisive, prickly and abrasive as its predecessor"
CGMagazine (Justin Wood) 5/10 technical issues

Praise centered on the combat, the story and the depth of its world. IGN singled out its melee fighting and story, GameSpot judged it better than its predecessor, and PC Gamer, which later made it its game of the year, called it "a big, bold, unutterably weird thing".

The criticism was mostly about how much it asks of players. Eurogamer found it as prickly as the first game, The Guardian wrote on Feb 5, 2025 that it "demands extreme patience of its players" (OpenCritic), GamesRadar+ noted the deliberately slow progression, and Metro GameCentral and VideoGamer each gave it 7/10. No Polygon review appears on OpenCritic's list.

The sales made Warhorse's best year. Controversies

A rumored ban in Saudi Arabia was never confirmed. The Arabic outlet VGA4A posted on Jan 14, 2025 that the game was banned there over "unskippable gay scenes", a claim Insider Gaming called unverified. Vávra replied on Jan 19 that there are no unskippable cutscenes, that the game had not been banned anywhere as far as Warhorse knew, and that a same-sex romance is optional (Push Square). See Romance.

Vávra also rejected reports that pre-orders dropped over "woke" content. He said the ratio of sold to returned copies was unchanged and noted that gay characters already existed in the first game (Push Square). Separately, Steam lists Indonesia's IGRS rating for the game as "BANNED".
