Best Early Choices
The early choices that matter most in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are the Wedding Crashers route (Radovan or the miller), which horse to keep, your first perks and where you get armor and a sword in the Trosky region. The prologue playstyle choice (Soldier, Adviser or Scout) gives only small starting bonuses, so Game Rant suggests Adviser or Soldier.
The Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 choice that matters least is the one players worry about most: the prologue's playstyle pick (Soldier, Adviser or Scout) gives only a few skill levels, which Game Rant's playstyle guide (Feb 6, 2025) calls "very, very minor" because skills rise through use anyway. The choices with lasting weight come a few hours later: which route you take through Wedding Crashers, which horse you keep, what you spend your first perk points on, and where you buy or find armor and a real sword in the Trosky region. This page gathers what guide outlets recommend for each, with prices and stats as they reported them; Warhorse rebalanced items in later patches, so treat dated figures as dated.

The playstyle choice: Soldier, Adviser or Scout
The playstyle choice comes in Easy Riders, when Captain Thomas surrounds Hans and his company on suspicion of being bandits, as Game Rant places it. Each answer raises a different set of skills:
| Playstyle | Starting bonuses (Game Rant) |
|---|---|
| Soldier | Strength +1, Agility +1, Drinking +1, Warfare +1, Swords +1, Heavy Weapons +1, Polearms +2, Unarmed +1 |
| Adviser | Speech +1, Alchemy +2, Scholarship +2, Horsemanship +1 |
| Scout | Houndmaster +1, Stealth +1, Survival +2, Thievery +1, Swords +1, Marksmanship +1 |
Source: Game Rant's playstyle guide, Feb 6, 2025. Game Rant's page layout made a few of the smaller secondary bonuses hard to assign, so take the table as its reading.
Game Rant recommends Adviser or Soldier and calls Scout the harder start, because being spotted by guards early is punishing. Whatever you pick, the bonuses are small next to what training adds later; how each skill levels is on Skills and Stats.
The same quest asks a few smaller questions. Game Rant's Easy Riders walkthrough (Feb 6, 2025) says answering "Do we really look like bandits to you?" always raises reputation, and that at the campfire you pick stat boosts from three sets (a main stat, a utility skill and a weapon skill). Beat Hans in the practice bout too: it earns the achievement Déjà Vu, which can only be earned there, as Game Rant's achievement guide (May 16, 2025) notes, and which 67.9% of Steam players hold (Oct 25, 2026). The whole opening is on Prologue Walkthrough.
Wedding Crashers: Radovan or the miller
Choosing Radovan or Miller Kreyzl is the first real point of no return. Taking one path to the wedding locks the other, according to Game Rant's points-of-no-return guide (Feb 13, 2025). TheGamer's walkthrough (Feb 8, 2025) lists the quests on each side: Radovan's route runs through The Blacksmith's Son, The Jaunt and The Hermit, Kreyzl's through Materia Prima, Forbidden Fruit and Opus Magnum.
Radovan is the outlets' usual pick. Game Rant's early-game list (Feb 5, 2025) recommends him because he gives Henry a free bed and introduces crafting, which also becomes a source of income (Blacksmithing). His route pays in gear as well: PCGamesN says Radovan gives a Rusty Sheet Cuirass for The Jaunt, and The Hermit rewards the Toledo Steel Sword.
The miller suits a thief. Kreyzl teaches lockpicking, pickpocketing and takedowns in Materia Prima, and his shack's very easy practice chest relocks after each opening, according to Game Rant's lockpicking guide (Feb 7, 2025). Opus Magnum also introduces gunpowder long before the story hands Henry a gun (Game Rant, Feb 20, 2025). See Stealth, Lockpicking and Pickpocketing.
The Hermit: save Konrad or not
The Hermit, on Radovan's route, ends with a choice about a man pretending to be the hermit. TheGamer's Hermit guide (Feb 5, 2025) explains that he is Konrad, and that you can help him fight the soldiers who come for him (two against three) or kill him, which TheGamer calls the easiest outcome. The sword Radovan wants, Ambrose's, is buried on a grave under a small tree up the hill behind the hermit's camp.
Early armor
Buy your first armor in Tachov. PCGamesN's armor guide (May 16, 2025) says the blacksmith in Tachov, north of Troskowitz, sells an Italian Hauberk for 180 groschen and a Smooth Cuirass for 440, plus head, arm and leg pieces. Blacksmith Osinia at Trosky Castle adds Plate Knight Gauntlets and Milanese plate legs once Wedding Crashers is done.
Pick up the free pieces. PCGamesN says a Patched Cuirass and a Broadsword lie in the wolf den at the end of the Mutt quest (Mutt the Dog), and Radovan's Rusty Sheet Cuirass comes from The Jaunt in Semine. TheGamer's money guide (Feb 4, 2025) adds that the chest in Henry's room at the Troskowitz blacksmith holds the pre-order gear.
Game Rant built a full early set from the Trosky Castle blacksmith. Its best armor guide (Mar 17, 2026) lists these pieces with their defense:
| Piece | Defense (Game Rant) | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Bascinet With Aventail | 120 | Trosky blacksmith |
| Mail Hood With a Coat of Arms | 77 | Trosky blacksmith |
| Mail Collar With Badge | 68 | Trosky blacksmith |
| Hauberk Long | 68 | Trosky blacksmith |
| Saxon Brigandine | 125 | Trosky blacksmith |
| Silesian Brigandine Sleeves | 126 | Trosky blacksmith |
| Milanese plate legs | 126 | Trosky blacksmith |
| Short Pourpoint | 46 | The Lion's Crest DLC quest |
| Brunswick's Gauntlets | 112 | The Lion's Crest DLC quest |
| Padded Chausses | 43 | The Lion's Crest DLC quest |
Source: Game Rant's best armor guide, Mar 17, 2026. The Lion's Crest was the pre-order bonus questline and has been sold since Mar 28, 2025 for $4.99 on Steam; see DLC and Expansion Pass. All armor is on Armor and Clothing.
Early swords and bows
The first good sword is free. PCGamesN's sword guide (May 16, 2025) lists the Broadsword at 12 Strength and 16 Agility, found in several places including the wolves' den near the nomads' camp. Its other early finds:
| Sword | Strength / Agility (PCGamesN) | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Homemade Hunting Sword | 4 / 6 | Dropped by Ota the farmhand in Bad Blood |
| Knight's Longsword | 8 / 11 | Various places; one of the lowest-requirement longswords |
| Falchion | 10 / 11 | Trosky Castle blacksmith |
| Broadsword | 12 / 16 | Wolf den near the nomads' camp, and elsewhere |
| Toledo Steel Sword | 12 / 15 | Reward of The Hermit |
| Battle Longsword | 14 / 17 | Near the wolfpack at Rocktower Pond |
| Noble's Sword | 14 / 19 | Trosky Castle blacksmith |
Source: PCGamesN's best swords guide, May 16, 2025. The perks Train Hard, Fight Easy! (Strength 6) and Deft Hands (Agility 6) each lower weapon requirements by 2, per PCGamesN's May 2025 perk list, which brings the better swords within reach sooner. Later swords are on Best Weapons and Armor and Melee Weapons.
A free bow waits near Troskowitz. Game Rant's marksmanship guide (Feb 7, 2025) places it northeast of Troskowitz at the "Target on a tree" spot, with arrows and a Marksmanship book; Game Rant's guides call it the Dogwood Town Bow in one place and the Dogwood Village Bow in another. The same guide calls crossbows the best beginner ranged choice and says an Old Hunting Crossbow sells in Troskowitz for about 66 groschen. More on Bows and Crossbows.
First perks
Spend the first points on staying alive. Game Rant's early-game list names Head Protection (Warfare) and Thick-Blooded (Vitality). In PCGamesN's May 2025 list, Head Protection (Warfare 6) cuts head damage by 20% with a helmet and Thick-Blooded (Vitality 6) slows bleeding.
Choose a heritage at main level 10. PCGamesN says Martin's Heritage and Radzig's Heritage exclude each other: Martin's speeds up Swords, Craftsmanship and Survival, Radzig's speeds up Heavy Weapons, Marksmanship and Scholarship. TheGamer's best perks list (Feb 18, 2025) ranks Martin's Heritage among its ten best. Every tree is on Perks; whole character plans are on Builds.
Pebbles or Herring
In Back in the Saddle, Kabat at Trosky Castle offers Herring in exchange for Pebbles, according to Game Rant's walkthrough (Feb 11, 2025). Herring starts with better stats, but each horse has a hidden perk for distance ridden: Game Rant's horse guide (Feb 17, 2026) says riding Pebbles at least 35 km unlocks Good Old Pebbles and riding Herring at least 50 km (fast travel excluded) unlocks Red Herring. The same Feb 2026 update says a patch later weakened both upgraded horses in everything except carrying capacity, so stat tables from early 2025 overstate the boosts. The comparison is on Horses.
Choices in the first story quests
Necessary Evil asks whether to name Olda Semine. If you keep his name out of the report, the quest simply ends; if you name him, Henry rides with Hashek to Semine, where you either side with the Semines (killing Hashek) or with Hashek, as Game Rant's walkthrough (Feb 13, 2025) and TheGamer's endings guide (Feb 5, 2025) describe. TheGamer counts siding with the Semines as the better choice for the ending, and Game Rant's points-of-no-return guide notes that siding with Hashek loses Gules' tasks. Torturing the bandit in the interrogation costs a lot of reputation with Hans.
The achievement Silence is Golden rewards stopping the raid on Semine, and only 25.2% of Steam players have it (Oct 25, 2026). Game Rant lists it as missable in Back in the Saddle and Necessary Evil.
For Victory! is the next lock. Starting it begins the chain to Storm and locks out the side quests Demons of Trosky and Bad Blood, so finish them first, Game Rant warns. How each choice feeds the ending is on Endings, and the quest order on Main Quests in Trosky.

BlacksmithingIn Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 you forge weapons and horseshoes yourself at a smithy: learn a recipe from a sketch, heat the metal with the bellows until it glows straw yellow, hammer it evenly on the anvil, reheat as needed and quench it. Blacksmith Radovan in Tachov teaches it in The Blacksmith's Son, and it raises Craftsmanship. -
Stealth, Lockpicking and PickpocketingIn Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 you sneak by crouching in quiet, dark clothes, knock people out or stealth kill them (a dagger is needed to kill) from behind, open locks by holding the cursor in a lock's gold sweet spot while turning it, and pickpocket by banking time on a reddening screen before taking items from a wheel. Miller Kreyzl in Lower Semine teaches all three. -
Mutt the DogMutt, Henry's dog from Skalitz, goes missing early in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and comes back through the side quest Mutt, which ends with a wolf fight near the Nomads' Camp; reuniting opens the Houndmaster skill, whose commands include Heel, Stay, Go Home, Sic'em, Track, Free! and Bark.
